Confidentiality & Data Protection

  • It is important that the NHS keeps accurate and up-to-date records about your health and treatment so that those treating you can give you the best possible advice and care. This information is recorded on computer and we are registered under the Data Protection Act meaning that this information is protected from improper use by a variety of controls. Information is only available to those involved in your care and you should never be asked for personal medical information by anyone not involved in your care.

We respect an individual's right to privacy and provide a confidential service to all our patients, including under 16s. This means that you can tell others about a visit, but we will not without your permission. The only reason why we might have to consider passing on confidential information without your permission would be to protect you or someone else from very serious harm. We would always try to discuss this with you first.

If you are being treated elsewhere, for example at a hospital, it is best if you allow the doctor or nurse to inform the practice of any treatment you are receiving.

You have a right to know what information we hold about you. If you wish to see your medical records please write to the practice manager, Mrs Sheila Lamkin.

If you have any worries about confidentiality, please feel free to ask a member of staff.
